An independent read on the advice you already have — before you act on it. Upload the opinion, advice, order or award you're holding and have it reviewed by a senior in-house NOS lawyer who had no part in writing it. You get a written stance — agree, partly agree or disagree — with the reasoning, the alternatives and an honest risk assessment within 48 hours of the session.
Understand the service
What we can help with
Second Opinion Support is an independent review of advice you already hold — a written legal opinion, an advocate's advice, a court or tribunal order, an arbitral award or a notice — on a matter connected to India. It exists for the moment before an irreversible step: accepting a settlement, filing an appeal, executing a deed, or complying with an order you're not sure about.
You need the document. The upload is mandatory and gates everything else — there is no second opinion without a first opinion to review. It must be complete, legible and not password-protected; if it isn't, we ask for it again and nothing is charged in the meantime. If you don't have written advice yet, the right starting point is Expert Legal Consultation.
Independence is checked before you pay. Once the document is in, we run a conflict check on three dimensions: whether our own team wrote the original (we will not review our own work and call it independent), whether the opposing party is already a NOS client, and whether any other conflict exists. If any of them fires we decline with a neutral referral — and because the fee is only offered after clearance, you are not charged for a matter we cannot ethically take. Where one of our own lawyers happens to have written the original, they are excluded from the pool and a different, independent lawyer reviews it.
Reviewed at senior level. The junior tier is switched off for this service. Standard reviews go to a Senior lawyer; court and tribunal orders, arbitral awards, high-value matters and cross-border questions are recommended at Principal level. You can move up, never below Senior. Your reviewer reads the document before the session, so the time is spent on the reasoning rather than on background.
How we treat the original advocate. The memo critiques the reasoning and the conclusions as professional analysis — it does not name or disparage whoever wrote the original. That is a professional-courtesy rule we hold to even when we disagree strongly. If you are contemplating a negligence claim, that is a separate matter and we'll tell you so rather than fold it into the memo.
What it isn't. A second opinion is advice, not representation, and it does not overturn, vacate or replace the original opinion or order — only a court can do that. Where the review shows action is needed, the memo names the step and the service that carries it out, and your fee is credited against it.
How it works on the ground
The government process is scattered across portals, offices and paperwork. NOS turns it into one guided flow.
The reality on the ground
Deciding whether to act on advice you have
You're being asked to settle, appeal, sign or comply — and you have one opinion, with no way to test it.
Asking another firm means re-explaining everything from scratch, and they rarely read the papers before the meeting.
Nobody tells you upfront whether they have a conflict; you find out after you've paid, if at all.
From abroad, with a deadline running, the timezone and the wait are the worst part.
The NOS way
Screened for independence, then reviewed by a senior lawyer
01Upload what you have
A short intake and the document itself. We check it's complete and readable before the clock starts — a second opinion needs a first opinion to review.
02Independence check first
Authorship, the opposing party and any other conflict, all screened before a fee is taken. We won't review our own team's work as though it were independent.
03Senior reviewers only
The junior tier is disabled here. Court orders, awards and cross-border matters go to Principal level.
04Read before you meet
Your reviewer gets the document pack in advance, so the session is spent on the reasoning rather than on catching up.
05A stance, not a hedge
Agree, partly agree or disagree — stated plainly, with the reasoning behind it and an honest risk assessment.
06A next step you can act on
Alternative options and one recommended next step, plus 7 days of follow-up and your fee credited if you instruct us to carry it out.

one flow, tracked end to end
Independent by design
We won't review advice our own team wrote, or advise where the other side is our client — and the check runs before you pay.
A clear stance, in writing
Agree, partly agree or disagree, with the reasoning, the alternatives and a risk assessment, within 48 hours.
Senior reviewers only
The junior tier is switched off for this service — a second opinion is reviewed at Senior or Principal level.
What we handle
How it works
- 01Step 1
Tell us what you're holding
The matter and legal area, what the existing opinion or order concluded, what specifically you want tested, who gave it, and any deadline you're up against — a limitation period, an appeal window or a compliance date.
- 02Step 2
Upload the document
The opinion, advice, order or award itself — this is the one thing we can't start without. We check it's complete, readable and not password-protected before anything else runs. If pages are missing we'll ask for them, and nothing is charged while we wait.
- 03Step 3
Independence & conflict check
Before any fee is taken we check three things: that nobody on our team wrote the original, that the other side isn't already our client, and that no other conflict exists. If any of them fail we decline, hand you a neutral referral, and you are not charged.
- 04Step 4
Choose your reviewer and slot
Only Senior and Principal reviewers are offered — the junior tier is switched off for this service. Court orders, arbitral awards, high-value and cross-border matters are recommended at Principal. Pick a slot in your own timezone, usually within 24–48 hours; pay-first, so the lawyer is committed only once payment is captured.
- 05Step 5
The review session
Your reviewer reads the document before you meet. Thirty to forty-five minutes by video or voice, with a WhatsApp voice fallback if the line is poor, spent on the original reasoning, your doubts and their preliminary view.
- 06Step 6
Second-opinion memo & follow-up
DeliveredWithin 48 hours: the issue and the original conclusion, the documents relied on, an explicit agree / partly agree / disagree with reasoning, the alternative options, a risk assessment, and the recommended next step — plus 7 days of follow-up with the same lawyer.
What you'll typically need
- The opinion, advice, order or award you want reviewed — complete, readable and not password-protected
- What it concluded, and what specifically you're unsure about or want tested
- Who gave it — the firm, advocate or court (this is what the independence check runs against)
- Whether there's an opposing party on the matter, and their name (for the conflict check)
- Any deadline you're up against — a limitation period, an appeal window or a compliance date
If the file turns out to be incomplete, unreadable, password-protected, or just a covering letter rather than the opinion itself, we'll ask you to send it again — the booking and conflict-check clocks don't start until we have the real thing, and nothing is charged while we wait. If anyone is in immediate danger, or facing threats or violence, say so in the intake: we set the booking flow aside, show you the emergency helplines, and a lawyer calls you within two hours.
Made for NRIs. Slots are shown in your local time and matched to a lawyer who speaks your language. The fee is charged in INR and displayed in USD or AED so you always know what you're paying. Tell us if a limitation or appeal deadline is running and we'll prioritise a slot — reviewing an order from another timezone shouldn't cost you the window to act on it.
Unsure about the advice you've been given?
Upload it and we'll run the independence check before anything is charged. The intake takes about two minutes.
