The place to start when you don't yet know what you're dealing with. Describe the problem in your own words — property, family, employment, consumer, contracts, or simply “not sure” — and talk it through with an in-house NOS lawyer for one flat fee, the lowest in our legal catalogue. You leave with a written memo, a clear next step, and your fee credited against whatever you decide to do next.

Understand the service

What we can help with

Legal Advisory is the general entry point to everything else we do: a paid, time-boxed session with an in-house NOS lawyer — by video, voice or WhatsApp voice — about any legal question connected to India. Property and tenancy, family, employment, a consumer complaint, a contract clause, or a worry you can't yet put in a category. You don't need to know which specialist you want; working that out is part of the session.

One flat fee, no tiers. Unlike a specialist consultation there is no seniority tier to pick and no quotation to wait for — a single flat fee covers any legal area, and it is deliberately the lowest price point in our legal catalogue. If you go on to instruct us for anything the memo recommends — a notice or deed to draft, a registration, a complaint, or litigation — that fee is credited against it in full.

If it turns out to be specialist. Some matters — a multi-party partition, cross-border succession, a corporate or regulatory question — need a senior specialist. When the intake shows that, we tell you before you pay and offer an upgrade to Expert Legal Consultation, with the price difference shown plainly. You are never switched to it silently, and you can decline and stay in general advisory.

No documents needed. A session goes ahead with nothing uploaded. You can share a letter or a screenshot as context, but this isn't a document review — if your matter really needs a lawyer to study the file before advising, we'll say so and point you to the service that does that.

What it isn't. Advisory is guidance, not representation: no court appearance, no filing, and it does not create an advocate-client relationship of record. If the opposite party is already a NOS client, or the matter has no India nexus, we decline and refund in full rather than advise.

How it works on the ground

The government process is scattered across portals, offices and paperwork. NOS turns it into one guided flow.

The reality on the ground

When you don't know what you're dealing with

4 hurdles

Every search result assumes you already know whether you need a specialist, a document, or nothing at all.

Free advice online is generic; a formal consultation feels like a commitment you're not ready to make.

Fees are quoted per lawyer and per matter, so there's no way to tell what a straight answer should cost.

From abroad, the timezone, the language and the payment method all work against you.

The NOS way

One flat fee, one lawyer, one clear next step

6 steps · one flow
  1. 01Ask in plain language

Five or six questions and a description in your own words. “Not sure” is an option for the legal area, because not knowing is the normal starting point.

  2. 02Safety, conflict & scope checks

Every matter is screened before a slot is confirmed — and we refund in full rather than advise where we shouldn't.

  3. 03One flat fee, no tiers

The same price whatever the legal area, and the lowest in our legal catalogue. No hourly billing, no per-lawyer negotiation, nothing to choose between.

  4. 04A slot in your timezone

Slots render in your local time, usually within 24–48 hours, filtered to lawyers who speak your language.

  5. 05The session, on your channel

Video, voice, or WhatsApp voice if the line drops — 30–45 minutes with the lawyer who owns your matter.

  6. 06A memo with a next step

Within 48 hours: the issue, what the guidance rests on, the guidance, and what to do next — plus 7 days of follow-up with the same lawyer.

one flow, tracked end to end

One flat fee, any question

The lowest price in our legal catalogue, identical whatever the area — and credited in full if you take the matter further.

Start without a diagnosis

“Not sure” is a valid answer. Working out what your problem actually is, is part of the session.

A written next step

A general advice memo within 48 hours, ending in one specific recommendation — or “nothing needed”, if that's the honest answer.

What we handle

How it works

  1. 01
    Step 1

    Ask your question

Pick a broad legal area — property, family, employment, consumer, contracts, or “general / not sure” — and describe what's happened in your own words. Five or six questions, and no documents required to proceed.

  2. 02
    Step 2

    We screen the matter

Before anything is booked we run a safety, conflict-of-interest and scope check. If the other side is already a NOS client, or the matter sits outside advisory scope, we decline and refund in full rather than advise you badly.

  3. 03
    Step 3

    One flat fee, one slot

There's no tier to choose and no quotation to wait for — a single flat fee covers any legal area. Pick a slot in your own timezone, usually within 24–48 hours, with a lawyer who speaks your language. Pay-first: the slot is held and a lawyer assigned only once payment is captured.

  4. 04
    Step 4

    Your session

Thirty to forty-five minutes by video or voice, with a WhatsApp voice fallback if the connection is poor. Ten Indian languages are supported, and a gender preference is honoured on sensitive family matters.

  5. 05
    Step 5

    Memo, next step, follow-up

    Delivered

Within 48 hours you get a written memo — the issue, what the guidance rests on, the guidance itself, and a specific recommended next step (which may be “nothing needed”) — plus a 7-day window to ask the same lawyer clarifying questions.

What you'll typically need

  • A few sentences on what's happened — your own words are fine, no legal terms needed
  • The outcome you're hoping for, so the session is spent on what matters to you
  • Your preferred language and the timezone you'll be joining from
  • Whether there's already a case or lawyer, and the other party's name (for the conflict check)
  • Anything you'd like the lawyer to glance at — a letter, a screenshot, one page of an agreement — entirely optional

Nothing on this list is a blocker — a session can go ahead with no documents at all, and “I'm not sure” is a perfectly good answer to most of it. If anyone is in immediate danger, or facing threats or violence, say so in the intake: we set the booking flow aside, show you the emergency helplines, and a lawyer calls you within two hours whether or not you have paid.

Made for NRIs. Slots are shown in your local time and matched to a lawyer who speaks your language. The fee is charged in INR and displayed in USD or AED so you always know what you're paying. If the video drops, the session falls back to voice and then to WhatsApp — no rebooking, no trip home.

Not sure where to start?

That's exactly what this is for. The intake takes about two minutes, and you'll see the flat fee before you pay.
